Hempstead, N.Y. - The Stony Brook baseball team rallied to score three runs in the seventh, but fell 5-4 to Hofstra on Tuesday afternoon. The loss drops the Seawolves to 0-13 on the season and Hofstra improves to 7-14.

Stony Brook opened scoring in the contest and jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning. With two outs and runners on first and third, Chris DiBiaso singled in Kyle Traylor to plate the Seawolves' first run.

Hofstra responded by scoring five unanswered runs, capped by a two-run sixth inning. Ricky Caputo opened the sixth with a solo shot off of SBU starter Tom Koehler. The Pride added an unearned run in the frame when Tom Caltabiano delivered the two-out RBI single.

The Seawolves responded in the seventh, but it wasn't quite enough. Robert Leonard got things going with a one-out single and Andres Perez followed with an RBI double to deep left. Traylor delivered a two-out RBI single and scored the next at-bat off of a Peter Milani RBI double.

Hofstra called Jeff Denlea out of the bullpen, and he pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning to earn the save and seal the victory for the Pride.

Koehler (0-2) shouldered the loss for Stony Brook, allowing five runs in six innings. Gary Novakowski pitched two scoreless innings out of the pen. Leonard finished the game 2-for-5 with a run scored, Perez was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Traylor ended the day 2-for-5 with two runs scored and one driven in.

Stony Brook will return to action this Saturday, when they host Bucknell for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 P.M.
