Box Score
Hempstead, N.Y. -
Courtney Oliver threw a complete-game two-hitter and hit the tiebreaking home run in the fourth inning to lead the Hofstra to a 4-2 win over Stony Brook on Tuesday afternoon at Hofstra Softball Stadium. The loss dropped Stony Brook to 12-12 on the season.
Oliver broke the tie in the bottom of the fourth, when she led off the inning with a line drive into the right-center field gap that hit off the top of the wall and bounced over for her second home run of the season, giving the Pride a 3-2 lead. Hofstra added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-out error.
The Pride jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run double from senior third baseman Tara Ulrich that plated Carolann Lubach and Lisa Wambold.
Stony Brook evened the score 2-2 in the top of the third inning, as a hit-by-pitch, an error and a walk loaded the bases with nobody out. First baseman Hayley Durham then lined out to center field to score a run, and a wild pitch evened the score at 2-2.
Sarah Hoffman took the loss for Stony Brook to drop to 4-4, allowing five hits and three earned runs while striking out three.
Stony Brook returns to action on Thursday when it host Fairleigh Dickinson in a doubleheader. First pitch is 2 p.m.
