Baseball Overwhelms Fordham, 17-1

Bronx, N.Y. - The Stony Brook baseball team's bats exploded for 21 hits and scored 17 runs as the Seawolves (4-14) overwhelmed the Fordham Rams (9-14), 17-1. Brian Murtagh struck out a career-high 11 batters in five innings of two-hit baseball in the win. Peter Milani was a double shy of the cycle as the Seawovles won their fourth straight.

Milani got the bats rolling for the Seawolves, as the senior belted a solo shot in the second inning. Stony Brook broke the game open in the third, when the Seawolves plated nine runs in the frame.

Four Seawolves finished the game with three hits and 12 different players recorded base knocks as SBU tallied 21 hits on the afternoon. All nine starters in the lineup for Stony Brook recorded hits and scored at least one run.

Keith Fier ended the game 3-for-6 with a double and two RBI. Andres Perez was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored and Milani was 3-for-4 with a triple, a homerun and two runs scored.

Murtagh (1-1) struck out eight of the first nine batters he faced on his way to a career-high 11 strikeouts. The senior only allowed two hits in five innings of work.

The Seawolves return to action on Friday, when they welcome the New York Institute of Technology to University Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 P.M.
