The Stony Brook University softball team swept a pair of games against Farleigh Dickinson this afternoon at University Field. In the first game, Molly Kestranek's grand slam in the first inning sparked the Seawolves to a 6-1 win. In the second game, Sarah Hoffman tossed a one-hit shutout as SB cruised to a 9-0 win in six innings.
With the pair of wins, Stony Brook improves to 14-12 on the year.
In the first game of the day, the Seawolves jumped all over Farleigh Dickinson in the first inning, scoring four runs after Molly Kestranek bombed a grand slam over the scoreboard in left field to give SB a 4-0 advantage. The Seawolves tacked on two more runs in the second inning when Ashley Westphal's RBI single scored Kelsi Fanneli and Westphal came around to score after Marissa Fleury cracked her second triple of the year, giving Stony Brook a 6-0 lead.
Westphal went 3-4 on the day with two runs scored while Fleury went 2-4 and Kestranek finished with four RBI.
Angela Andrews cruised to the win, allowing one run off six hits while striking out three in seven innings of work.
In the second game, the Seawolves erupted for seven runs in the six inning to cruise to a 9-0 win. Stony Brook once again jumped on the board in the first inning when Fanelli crossed the plate on a Fleury bunt.
The Seawolves tacked on another run in the fifth when Fleury singled in Angela Martin to go up 2-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Seawolves erupted for seven runs in the inning off five hits. Hayley Durham ended the game with a two-run blast to dead center to end the game in six innings.
Martin, Fleury, and Durham all ended the game with a pair of RBI and Durham finished the day going 3-4 from the plate.
The Seawolves would then coast to victory behind a wonderful performance on the mound by Sarah Hoffman as she pitched a one-hit shutout while striking out four.
Stony Brook continues their five-game homestand on Saturday when they open up America East Conference play with a doubleheader against Maine. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
