Stony Brook Baseball Shutout By East Carolina, 4-0

Greenville, N.C. - The Stony Brook baseball team was held to only three hits as the Seawolves fall to East Carolina, 4-0. The loss drops Stony Brook to 0-5 on the season and with the win the Pirates improve to 10-3.

The Pirates wasted no time in putting runs on the board. In the bottom of the first, following a Jay Mattox single, Jake Smith ripped a two-run shot over the left-field fence. Smith delivered his second homer of the game, when he hit s solo blast in the third inning, giving ECU the 3-0 advantage.

Smith added on his fourth RBI of the game, when he hit a single up the middle to plate Mattox from second.

Andres Perez recorded two of Stony Brook's three hits, as the junior went 2-for-4 at the plate. Mike Errigo (0-1) picked up the loss for the Seawolves, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing three runs. Gary Novakowski pitched 1.2 shutout innings from the pen, striking out two.

Dustin Sasser (3-1) and Carter Harrell combined on the shutout for East Carolina, with Sasser lasting 7.0 innings and Harrell throwing two innings of hitless ball, striking out two. Smith provided all of the Pirates offense, going 3-for-4 on the day with four RBI and two homeruns.

The Stony Brook baseball team will conclude its series with ECU on Sunday, when the two teams square off at 1:00 P.M.
