Baseball Defeats Maine, 3-1, In Eight Innings

April 13, 2006

Final Stats

The Stony Brook University baseball team defeated Maine, 3-1, in eight innings this evening. In a game that was interrupted by a 1:45 rain delay and eventually called due to fog, the Seawolves improve to 10-17, 2-2 in America East Play.

The Black Bears scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning on a sac fly to put the home team up, 1-0.

In the fourth inning, Stony Brook broke open the game, plating three runs off four hits. Jon Pasieka led off the inning with a double down the right field line and after advancing to third on a pop out by Robert Leonard, would eventually score the Seawolves first run of the game on a wild pitch. Peter Milani's RBI single scored Isidro Fortuna who had previously walked in the inning, and a Tom Pennino single plated Milani.

That would be all the run support Tom Koehler would need as he allowed just three hits while striking out a pair to pick up the win in the contest. Gary Novakowski registered the save for Stony Brook as he came in in the eighth inning an struck out two.

Chris DiBiaso went 2-4 in the game for the Seawolves.

The Seawolves return to action when they take on the Black Bears in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
