Final Stats
The Stony Brook University baseball team dropped a pair of one-run games at Maine this afternoon in America East Conference play. The Seawolves fell in both contests by a score of 3-2. With the losses, the Seawolves fall to 10-19 this year, 1-4 in conference play.
The Seawolves fell behind early 3-0 in the first game as Maine scored all three of their runs in the first inning. After Matt Restivo walked the first two batters of the game, the Black Bears used a pair of RBI singles and a sac fly to take a 3-0 advantage.
Stony Brook battled back, scoring runs in the third and fourth inning to cut the lead to one. Chris Cruz hit a solo shot in the third inning
and Isidro Fortuna scored on a wild pitch after previously doubling in the inning.
Fortuna was the only Seawolf to register two hits in the contest as he went 2-3.
Matt Restivo took the loss as he went 5.2 innings, scattering six hits while alloweing three runs, striking out five, and walking four.
In the second contest of the day, Maine shot out of the gate, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Black Bears used a fielder's choice and an RBI single to take a 2-0 advantage after one inning of play.
The Seawolves would not go away as Chris Cruz led off the second inning with a single to center field. Cruz would advance to second on a wild pitch, move to third on another wild pitch, and come around to score on a passed ball, cutting the lead to 2-1. SB would knot the game at two as Chris Sipp, who reached base on a walk earlier in the inning, scored on a Maine error, tying the game up at two runs apiece.
However, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Black Bears got to closer Nick Abel, as a walk-off RBI single proved to be the difference in the game.
Jon Pasieka went 2-3 and Andres Perez went 2-4 in the game.
Starting pitcher Mike Errigo lasted just one inning, allowing two runs off two hits. Kris Bakey suffered the loss as he went 5.1 innings, allowing one run off two hits.
The Seawolves wrap up their four-game set with Maine on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
