Eight different Seawolves tallied hits, but the Stony Brook baseball team fell 8-2 to Hofstra on Tueday afternoon. The loss drops the Seawolves to 10-20 on the season and Hofstra improves to 15-23-1.
Hofstra opened the scoring in the top of the first, plating a pair of runs off Stony Brook starter Brian Murtagh. Matt Kougasian opened the scoring when he singled in Patrick Rogers who had just doubled. Kougasian would later score when Josh Stern drew a bases-loaded walk.
Stony Brook answered with a run in the bottom of the first, when Jon Pasieka delivered the two-out, RBI single to plate Andres Perez.
The score would remain 2-1 until Hofstra scored two runs in the sixth, three in the seventh and one in the eighth to build an 8-1 lead. Ricky Caputa fueled the rally, blasting a two-run homerun in the seventh.
The Seawolves tacked on another run in the bottom of the ninth, when Steven Mazzurco tripled and scored on a passed ball.
Brian Murtagh (2-2) shouldered the loss for Stony Brook, allowing two earned runs in 4.0 innings of work. Eric Corkery (1-0) picked up the win, allowing only one run in 5.0 innings of work.
Tom Pennino finished the day 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, Mazzurco was 1-for-1 with a triple and a run scored and Pasieka was 1-for-3 with an RBI single.
The Seawolves return to action on Friday when they host America East foe, Harford. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 P.M.
