Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook baseball team and the New York Institute of Technology combined for 28 hits and 26 runs as the Seawolves outslugged the Bears, 15-11 at University Field on Sunday afternoon. Isidro Fortuna and Andres Perez each blasted home runs as the Seawolves have won six of seven to improve to 6-15 on the season. The loss drops the Bears to 8-10.

NYIT jumped to an early 2-0 lead, when they took advantage of a Stony Brook error and plated a pair in the top of the first.

The Seawolves responded by scoring eight runs off of three hits in the bottom of the third. NYIT starter Chris Perez walked four batters, hit one and threw two wild pitches in the inning. Rob Leonard and Tom Pennino each delivered RBI singles in the inning.

Stony Brook tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning, as Perez blasted a solo shot over the left field fence and Pete Milani ripped an RBI triple, scoring later on a Leonard sac fly.

The Bears responded with three in the top of the fifth, but SBU had the answer, scoring three in the bottom of the frame, capped by a two-run homer off the bat of Fortuna.

NYIT would plate six more runs in the contest to keep things interesting, but Marc Brown was able to get the Seawolves out of a jam in the eighth, as he induced a double play and a strike out to keep the lead at four.

Nick Abel threw a scoreless ninth for the save to preserve the Stony Brook win.

Mike Errigo (1-2) picked up the win for Stony Brook, going 6.0 innings, striking out eight and allowing six earned runs. Fortuna finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with a homerun, three runs driven in and three runs scored. Perez was 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and three runs scored.

The Seawolves return to action on Wednesday, April 5 when they host St. Francis. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 P.M.
