The Stony Brook bats rattled off 33 hits and scored 26 runs as the Seawolves swept a doubleheader against Hartford on Friday afternoon. The Seawolves won the opener 11-2 and then took Game 2, 15-3. Jon Pasieka finished the day a combined 6-for-7 with five RBI and two runs scored and Chris Sipp went 6-for-9 with an RBI and three runs scored as the Seawolves improve to 12-20 overall and 4-4 in America East play.
In Game 1, Stony Brook starter Tom Koehler limited the Hawks to six hits in 8.0 innings of work to improve to 3-2 on the year. Koehler only allowed two unearned runs and struck out eight in the win.
Andres Perez got the offense going, leading off the game for Stony Brook with a solo blast over the left field fence. Tom Pennino hit his third homerun of the year in the eighth inning, a three-run shot to left-center as the Seawolves cruised to the 11-2 win.
Pennino led the offense, going 3-for-4 in Game 1 with three runs scored and three driven in. Sipp went 3-for-5 with a run scored, Isidro Fortuna batted 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, Pasieka was 3-for-4 with three RBI and Chris Cruz went 2-for-5 as the Seawolves tallied 18 hits in the opener.
The Seawolves hot bats carried on into Game 2, as the Seawolf offense exploded for 15 runs off of 15 hits. Matt Restivo kept the Hartford bats in check, only allowing three runs and striking out four in the complete game win.
Stony Brook opened up its scoring in the third, when the Seawolves plated five runs with two outs. Pasieka drew a bases loaded walk to plate Cruz and then Rob Leonard, Pete Milani and DiBiaso hit three consecutive singles as Stony Brook grabbed a 5-3 lead. The Seawolves scored 10 unanswered runs, capped by a six-run sixth as they completed the sweep of Hartford.
Pasieka finished Game 2, 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI, Sipp was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored and DiBiaso was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
The Seawolves return to action tomorrow morning at 10:00 A.M. when they continue their series with Hartford.
