Samantha Posey and Kelly Oberto each drove in two runs, powering Stony Brook to a 7-5 win over Binghamton in an America East Conference softball game at the East Gym Complex on Saturday afternoon. With the win Stony Brook improves to 16-16 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The Bearcats fall to 4-20 and 0-4 in the America East.
The Seawolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Designated hitter Hayley Durham had a RBI single and later scored on a fielder's choice. Oberto drew a bases-loaded walk to give Stony Brook the 3-0 lead.
The Bearcats responded, plating four runs in the second inning, capped by a Devin Glezen ground out to give Binghamton its first lead of the game.
Stony Brook reclaimed the lead in the fifth inning. Posey broke a 4-4 tie with a two-run double to right field and scored one batter later on a double by Oberto.
The Bearcats would only muster two more hits as the Seawolves held on for the 7-5 victory.
The Seawolves return to action tomorrow, when they finish their series at Binghamton with a doubleheader starting at noon.
