Football Names Captains For 2006 Season

May 10, 2006

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University head football coach Chuck Priore announced the captains for the 2006 season on Thursday. Senior wideout Michael Cosentino and senior running back Assad Hafiz will lead the offense while senior linebackers Chris Tomasky and Dan Michitsch will captain the defensive unit.

"The elected captains reflect the type of program we want to be," said Priore. "Their success has come from a tremendous work ethic and commitment to all of the values that it takes to be a successful person and student-athlete."

Cosentino returns for his final season in 2006 after making 19 receptions for 176 yards last season. Hafiz finished second on the team in rushing with 428 yards on 93 carries in 2005.

Tomasky totaled 24 tackles in three games last season before having his season cut short due to injury. Michitsch appeared in all 11 games, stepping in as a starter when Tomasky was sidelined. Michitsch totaled a team-high 95 tackles, four fumble recoveries and one interception.

The Seawolves claimed a share of the Northeast Conference title for the first time in program history last fall. The 2006 season opens up with Hofstra on August 31.
