Seawolves Extend Season With 5-3 Win Over Albany

Burlington, Vt. - Kris Bakey earned his fifth win of the season and the Seawolves tallied 12 hits and five runs on the afternoon as they extend their season another game with a 5-3 win over Albany in the America East Tournament. The Seawolves will take on the loser of the Maine/Vermont game later tonight.

The Seawolves opened up the scoring in the top of the first. With two outs and two on, Jon Pasieka ripped an RBI double to the fence in left-center to plate both Tom Pennino and Andres Perez to hand Stony Brook the early 2-0 lead.

In the top of the third, Brian Witkowski led off the frame with a single and advanced to third on Chris Sipp's single to right giving the Seawolves runners on first and third with nobody out. Pennino connected on his second hit of the game with a double down the right field line to plate both runners. Two batters later, Paskieka tallied his third RBI of the day and the fifth Stony Brook hit in a row to plate Pennino and increase the Seawolf lead to 5-0.

The score remained 5-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Steve Wyland, who reached on an error, scored an unearned run when Sean Donovan grounded into a double play cutting the Stony Brook lead to 5-1.

The Great Danes would cut the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth when Leo Corvino scored on a Stony Brook error and Donovan singled in Wylan with one out.

Kurt Jung threw a perfect ninth to clinch the win and pick up his first save of the season. Bakey improves to 5-4 on the year, scattering six hits over seven innings, striking out four and allowing only one earned run.

Pasieka finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI and Pennino was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

The Seawolves will take on the loser of the Maine/Vermont game later tonight at 7:00 P.M.
