Softball Falls to Albany, 10-1, In Five Innings

The Albany softball team picked up where it left off on Thursday morning, defeating Stony Brook, 10-1, in five innings after the game was halted on Wednesday evening after heavy rain in the area.

With the loss, the Seawolves fall to 23-24, 8-9 in America East play.

Stony Brook jumped on the board first, going up 1-0, on an Ashley Westphal solo homer to centerfield in the first inning.

However, Albany would answer with three runs in the second and four in the third to go up 7-1. A sac-fly by Kelly Ogden and Leslie Busch's two-RBI double provided the scoring for the Great Danes in the second, while Ali Meacham had a two-RBI single in the third. With play suspended, Albany had two outs and runners on the corners.

Albany continued to score as Meagan Larsen hit a solo home run off the left field scoreboard in the to lead off the fourth. The Great Danes added another run on a RBI-single by Katrina Dunning. The visitors would tack on one more run in the fifth on a sac-fly by Ashley Rios to complete the scoring.

The Seawolves had as many hits as they did errors in the contest with three. Westphal, Kelsi Fanelli, and Kelly Oberto each recorded hits in the contest.

Andrews suffered the loss as she went three innings allowing eight earned runs off nine hits and walking three. Christina Voth tossed 1.2 innings allowing one run off one hit while striking out a pair.

Stony Brook heads into their most important series of the season as they host Boston University this weekend to decide who goes to the America East playoffs. First pitch of the Saturday doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
