Softball Season Concludes After 2-0 Loss to Boston University

May 7, 2006

Final Stats

The Stony Brook University softball team's season came to a close on Sunday with a 2-0 loss to Boston University at University Field. With the loss, the Seawolves conclude the 2006 campaign with a 25-25 record, 10-10 in America East play.

Boston wasted no time scoring the first run of the game. After back to back singles to open the contest put runners on second and third Brandi Shields lined out to Seawolf pitcher Angela Andrews. Andrews turned and fired to second base in a double play attempt, but a miscue by Stony Brook's second baseman Molly Kestranek allowed Shayne Lolito to cross the plate.

In the bottom of the frame it appeared as though the Seawolves knotted the game at one as Marissa Fleury flied out to left field with the bases loaded, allowing Ashley Westphal to come home from third. However, it was determined that Westphal left the bag early and was called out, ending Stony Brook's threat.

The Terriers added another run in the fourth on an RBI double to complete the scoring in the contest.

The Seawolves managed just four hits in the contest with Suzanne Turek leading the charge, going 2-3. Kelly Oberto and Kestranek recorded the other hits in the game for SB.

Angela Andrews kept Stony Brook in the game throughout the contest, pitching out of jams on multiple occassions. She shouldered the loss, allowing one earned run off seven hits while striking out five.

Four seniors were honored in a pregame ceremony as Andrews, Laura Bradford, Hayley Durham, and Turek were all recognized for their efforts and contributions during their careers at Stony Brook.
