The Stony Brook University women's soccer team scored four first-half goals en route to a 5-0 win over St. Peter's at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on Wednesday night. With the win, the Seawolves improve to 5-3-1 while St. Peter's falls to 1-6 on the season.
The Seawolves wasted no time as Marissa Shibley took a pass from Tiffany Fasullo and put it past goalkeeper Jilian Fueshko in the third minute. Fasullo added a goal of her own just two minutes later to give the home team a 2-0 advantage. It was Shibley's second goal of the season while Fasullo tallied her third.
Kristin Mishrell and Samantha Roos each scored their first goals of the season in the first-half to put the Seawolves up 4-0 heading into the locker room. Mishrell headed home a Cait Frank cross in the 20th minute while Roos lofted a shot from 30 yards out over the outstretched arms of Peahens keeper Jilian Fueshko with four minutes left in the half. Roos' goal was the first of her collegiate career and was assisted by Brittany Benthin, who picked up her first collegiate point on the assist.
Stony Brook wrapped up its scoring when Brooke Barbuto scored a goal in the 85th minute when she converted a header from Trine Allenberg's corner kick to give the Seawolves a 5-0 lead.
Marisa Viola preserved the shutout as she made just three saves in the game. Stony Brook out shot the visitors, 20-6, in the contest.
Stony Brook travels to Massachusetts to take on Boston University in the America East lid lifter on Saturday. Kick-off is slated for 3:00 p.m.
