Nov. 17, 2007

Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook volleyball team bested number No. 4 Binghamton, 3-1 (23-30, 30-21, 30-24, 30-27) to advance to the America East Conference Finals. The top-seeded Seawolves were paced by seniors Morgan Sweany (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Jackie Ahlers (Stony Point, N.Y.) who each recorded 19 kills on the day. The Seawolves also received a great effort from senior Kaitlyn Deutsch (St. Louis, Mo.) who led both teams with 52 assists.

The Seawolves showed some obvious rust after their six-day layoff in the first game, finishing with just nine kills and a -.024 attack percentage.

However, Stony Brook quickly rebounded in the second game, finishing with 18 kills and winning by a match-high nine points.

In game three it was outside-hitter Sweany stepping up for the Seawolves on both offense and defense, finishing with eight kills and seven digs as Stony Brook won 30-24.

Game-four was more of the same from the Seawolves, as they served up a steady diet of kills from Sweany and Ahlers along with a match-high three service aces.

"This is what we've worked hard for all year," said head coach Deborah Matejka-DesLauriers, "but we have to stay focused because we still have one more to play."

Stony Brook advanced to the Conference Finals in front a season-high 304 raucous Seawolves fans, and expect an even bigger crowd tomorrow at 1 pm when they take on No. 3 University of Albany, who upset No. 2 University of New Hampshire, 3-1.
