Senior Mitchell Beauford (Queens, N.Y.) tied the game at 30 with 3:20 left in the first half but that would be the last point the Seawolves would score for over six and half minutes as the Lions went a 7-0 run to end the first half and then a 9-0 run to begin the second half to take a 46-30 lead with 17:17 left in the game.

The Lions defense carried them, holding the Seawolves to an amazing 5-for-35 shooting in the second half and 24.6 percent for the game. Columbia was led in scoring by John Baumann who poured in 21 while Ben Mwachukwu added 12.

The Seawolves played well early, going on 12-1 run to take its largest of the game at 18-13 with 11:18 remaining in the first half on a jumper by senior Emanuel Neto (Luanda, Angola). Columbia would rally back to take a four-point lead but Stony Brook answered with a 7-2 run, taking its final lead of the game on a free throw by junior Demetrius Young (Sacramento, Calif.) with 6:47 left in the half.

The lead then seesawed back and forth before the Seawolves tied it for the last time at 30 on the Beauford free throws.
