Boston, Mass. -
The Stony Brook University men's basketball fell to Boston University, 68-55, in America East action on Thursday evening. With the loss, the Seawolves fall to 8-17, 3-10 in league play while the Terriers improve to 11-14, 8-5.
"It's clear to see tonight that we have some real problems scoring," said head coach Steve Pikiell. "Tonight we were not able to make the necessary stops when we needed to and we lost to a good BU basketball team."
After a runner in the lane gave the Seawolves a quick 2-0 lead to open the contest, the Terriers responded with an 8-3 to take a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game. Stony Brook managed to net just 20 points on 28% shooting in the first stanza and fell behind 29-20 heading into the locker room.
The Seawolves cut the BU lead to four, 35-31, with 13:44 left in the game, but Tyler Morris' deep three on the next possession extended the Terriers lead to seven. Stony Brook would get no closer than five the rest of the way as BU went on to the victory.
Lucas was named the America East Player of the game for Stony Brook as he netted a team-best 17 points. Beauford chipped in with 12 points while Emanuel Neto recorded six points and eight rebounds in the paint.
The Terriers were paced by Morris' game-high 19 points while Carlos Strong added 14 off the bench. BU shot 49% for the game including 61% in the second half.
The Seawolves return to action when they host the University of New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
