Stony Brook Football Announces 2007 Recruiting Class

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook head football coach Chuck Priore announced that 14 student-athletes have committed to play football for Stony Brook University next fall. The 2007 recruiting class features eight transfers and five freshmen who will don the Seawolves uniform in September.

"As Stony Brook Football embarks on its next stage as a program, I am confident these will be the student-athletes to help us achieve our immediate and long-term goals," said Priore. "We are delighted to welcome a talented group of newcomers, some that will help us right away and others who will become the future of Stony Brook Football."

The 2007 recruiting class includes: DE Dominic Chevalier (Pittsburg, Calif/Pittsburg/Long Beach College), OG Paul Fenaroli (Monroe, Conn./Masuk), S Julian Glenn (Uniondale, N.Y./Holy Trinity/University of Maine), QB Dayne Hoffman (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central/Bridgton Academy), S Jovany Lazo (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood/Nassau Community College), NG Will Martinez (Downey, Calif./Downey/Cerritos College), RB Brandon Mason (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg/University of Pittsburgh), CB Mike McCoy (Los Angeles, Calif./Highland/San Bernardino College/University of Kansas), OLB Oliver Tameze-Rivas (Miami, Fla./Ferguson), OT Jason Thiem (La Habra, Calif./La Habra/Fullerton College), S Shamar Thornton (Inglewood, Calif./Venice), ILB Greg Weeks (Sarasota, Fla./Booker/Indiana University), S Arin West (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North).

Played two seasons at Long Beach College . . . named first-team All-Mission Football Conference American Division as a defensive end. . . attended Pittsburg High and was a four-year letter winner. . . played volleyball, wrestling, and track . . . an athletic training major.

Paul Fenaroli - Offensive Guard • Freshman • 6-2 • 280 • Monroe, Conn./Masuk
Played at Masuk High for coach Jon Murphy . . . picked up all-conference and all-state honors during his senior season . . . as a junior, selected as all-conference and all-area . . . named to the All-Danbury News Times squad . . . also lettered in baseball and wrestling . . . a second team all-state selection in wrestling.

Julian Glenn - Safety • R-Sophomore • 6-1 • 220 • Uniondale, N.Y./Holy Trinity/University of Maine
Played for the University of Maine before transferring back to his native Long Island . . . played his high school ball at Holy Trinity in Hicksville, under coach Tony Mascia. . . a three-time all-conference selection and a second team All-Long Island pick in 2004 . . . ran for 3,450 yards in three seasons of play.

Dayne Hoffman - Quarterback • Freshman • 6-2 • 225 • Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central/Bridgton Academy
Prepped at Bridgton Academy under coach Rick Marcella . . . received the Coaches Award for his efforts on the gridiron . . . a four-year letterwinner at Forest Hills Central in Grand Rapids, Mich . . . also played hockey and baseball . . . his father, Steven, played quarterback at Western Michigan.

Jovany Lazo - Safety • Junior • 5-9 • 175 • Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood/Nassau Community College
A Long-Island native from Brentwood, N.Y. . . . played two years at Nassau Community College . . . in two seasons, recorded 120 tackles, four interceptions, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries . . . an all-conference selection . . . named All-Suffolk County and all-league in 2003 . . . majoring in history.

Will Martinez - Nose guard • Junior • 6-1 • 310 • Downey, Calif./Downey/Cerritos College
A transfer from Cerritos College . . . in two years, recorded 49 tackles, seven for a loss, to go along with a forced fumble and a blocked kick . . . was a member of the Falcon track and field team this past season... named his team's Most Valuable Defensive Lineman as a senior in high school after recording 35 tackles and six quarterback sacks... as a junior, he had 25 tackles and three sacks after registering 25 tackles as a sophomore... helped lead his team to the San Gabriel Valley League title as a junior... Also spent three years on the track team and broke the discus record three different times.

Brandon Mason - Running Back • Junior • 6-2 • 220 • Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg /University of Pittsburgh
Transferred from the University of Pittsburgh . . . played two seasons for the Panthers under head coach Dave Wannstedt. . . as a freshman, rushed 17 times for 40 yards (2.4 avg.) in five games . . . named to The Associated Press All-New Jersey Team Second Team . . . the Express-Times 2003 Player of the Year . . . played tailback, fullback, strong safety and free safety during his high school career . . . set Phillipsburg single-season records for rushing yardage and touchdowns as a senior. . . rushed for 1,880 yards on 250 carries (7.5 avg.) and scored 25 touchdowns (24 rushing and one receiving) in 2003 . . . also set a school single-game record with 305 yards rushing in a game . . . led Phillipsburg to a 9-1 record, including the school's first-ever Skyland Conference Delaware Division championship and a No. 1 ranking in The Express-Times region . . . MVP of the New York versus New Jersey Governor's Bowl all-star game . . . PrepStar All-East Region . . . played under Coach Phil Rohm . . . earned three football letters . . . also a four-year track and field letterman . . . an All-New Jersey hurdler who also was an all-conference and all-region sprinter.

Mike McCoy - Cornerback • Junior • 5-10 • 180 • Los Angeles, Calif./Highland/San Bernardino CC/University of Kansas
Redshirted at the University of Kansas in 2006 . . . played two seasons for coach Pat Meech at San Bernardino Valley Community College in San Bernardino, Calif . . . recorded two interceptions, 10 pass deflections and 55 tackles in six games as a sophomore . . . an honorable-mention all-league selection in 2004 . . . collected 55 tackles, four interceptions and one forced fumble as a freshman . . . attended Highland High School in Palmdale, Calif . . . majoring in history.

Oliver Tameze-Rivas - Outside Linebacker • Freshman • 6-1 • 210 • Miami, Fla./Ferguson
A two-year letterwinner at Ferguson High School in Miami, Fla under head coach Gene Chew . . . registered 200 tackles and 10 sacks in two seasons . . . named the Defensive Player of the Year on his Ferguson squad along with being selected to the All-Miami Defensive Team during his senior year . . . also chosen to the All-Star game . . . also played basketball and track and field for the Falcons.

Jason Thiem - Offensive Tackle • Junior • 6-2 • 290 • La Habra, Calif./La Habra/Fullerton College
Transferred from Fullerton College where he played two seasons . . . given the Hornet Award for his efforts on the gridiron . . . a two-year letterwinner at La Habra High School in La Habra, Calif. . . also played basketball and tennis.

Shamar Thornton - Safety • Freshman • 6-0 • 180 • Inglewood, Calif./Venice
A four-year letterwinner at Venice High School in Los Angeles, Calif . . . a two-time all-league selection . . . as a senior captain, registered 48 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery which he returned for a touchdown . . . also ran track.

Greg Weeks- Inside Linebacker • Junior • 5-11 • 235 • Sarasota, Fla./Booker/Indiana University
Played two years at Indiana University . . . saw action in three games in 2005, primarily on special teams . . . Weeks played both linebacker and fullback in high school at Booker High in Sarasota Fla., under head coach Fred Gilmore . . . also played basketball and track in high school . . . majoring in sociology.

Arin West - Safety • Freshman • 6-0 • 205 • Toms River, N.J./Toms River North
A three-time letterwinner at Toms River North . . . recorded 12 career interceptions . . . a three-time all-shore, all-county, and all-division honoree . . . also named second-team All-State as a senior . . . also played basketball and ran track.

Chad Woodfork - Cornerback • Sophomore • 6-0 • 285 • Columbus, Ohio/San Bernardino College(CA)
Redshirted first season at San Bernardino Valley . . . had an excellent second season posting 33 tackles and three interceptions . . . averaged 12.4 yards on 20 punt returns including one for a touchdown.
