Thibodaux, La. - The Stony Brook baseball team split a pair of games with Nicholls State on Saturday afternoon. After winning Game 1, 8-6, the Seawolves fell in Game 2 in extra innings, 3-2. Stony Brook moves to 1-7 on the year and will conclude its series at Nicholls State on Sunday.

In Game 1, the Stony Brook baseball team took advantage of a Nicholls State error in the first inning to plate four runs and hand Tom Koehler an early lead. Nicholls State answered with a run in the bottom of the frame, but Koehler settled in, only allowing three earned runs in 6.2 innings of work. The Seawolves expanded their lead to 7-1 in the fourth when they scored three runs on three hits capped by a Chris Sipp RBI single to plate Justin Echevarria.

Nicholls State pulled within one run at 7-6 when a Seawolf error opened the door for a three run seventh, but Jon Kalkau threw 2.1 innings of shutout ball and Michael Stephan hit his first collegiate home run as Stony Brook held on for the 8-6 win.

Koehler (1-2) picked up the win allowing only three earned runs with four strikeouts in 6.2 innings. Stephan finished the game 2-for-3 with a homer and a pair of runs scored to pace the Stony Brook offense.

In Game 2, Stony Brook had a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning as Chris Cruz singled in Steven Mazzurco in the second inning and Mazzurco singled in Stephan in the eigth inning.

With a run in and two outs in the ninth, Nicholls State tied the game at 2-2 when a Stony Brook wild pitch allowed a run to cross the plate. Nicholls rallied in the bottom of the 11th to close out the game, 3-2, when a pair of errors allowed an unearned run to score.

Mike Errigo pitched a great game in a no decision for Stony Brook, allowing two runs in 8.2 innings of work with seven strikeouts. Rob Leonard (0-1) picked up the loss.

Sipp led the Stony Brook offense in Game 2, going 3-for-4 as the Seawolf bats totaled 16 hits in the second game. Stephan was 3-for-6 and Cruz was 3-for-5 in the loss.

Stony Brook will wrap-up its series with Nicholls State on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
