Stony Brook Baseball Falls to Wagner, 9-4

Staten Island, N.Y. - The Stony Brook baseball team had its five-game winning streak snapped as the Seawolves fell to Wagner, 9-4, on Tuesday afternoon. The loss drops the Seawolves to 12-13 overall and Wagner moves to 8-16.

The Seawolves managed to jump to a quick 1-0 lead when Michael Tansey singled in Michael Stephan with two outs in the first. Wagner wasted no time in responding, as the Seahawks plated three runs in the bottom of the frame off of starter Michael Gionesi as Wagner led 3-1 through one.

Wagner added another run in the third to extend its lead to 4-1. Rob Leonard cut the lead to two at 4-2 when he hit a solo blast in the sixth inning.

The Seahawks outscored Stony Brook 5-2 through the final four innings of play as they held on for the 9-4 win.

Gionesi (1-1) shouldered the loss, allowing four runs in 3.0 innings of work. Joe Goglia worked 2.0 hitless innings of relief.

Leonard finished the day 2-for-3 with the homer, Stephan was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and one driven in and Chris Cruz was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Seawolves return to action this weekend when they travel to Hartford for a four-game set. First pitch is set for Friday at 3:00 p.m.
