Softball Drops Two to UMBC

Stony Brook, N.Y. - UMBC used a three-run first inning in game one to top the Stony Brook softball team, 5-0 in America East action. Stony Brook fell in game two, 6-3. Stony Brook is 26-16, 10-6 in conference play. UMBC is 28-14, 11-6.

UMBC pieced together three hits and three runs in the first game helped by double from Dana Shepherd.

Ashley Westphal has two hits for Stony Brook in game one.

Sarah Hoffman took the loss for Stony Brook, giving up just two earned runs on the afternoon.

In game two, Stony Brook got as close as 5-3 after four innings. With one out and Molly Kestranek on first, Jamie Downer belted a double to right field. Westphal singled to right scoring Kestranek and Vicki Kavitsky followed with a double, plating Downer and Westphal.

Westphal had two hits in game two as well and Kelly Oberto had two hits.

The series' final game is set for tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is 12 pm.
