The Stony Brook baseball team fell to Fairfield on Tuesday afternoon, 4-2. Fairfield plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take control of the game. With the loss the Seawolves move to 7-12 on the year. With the win the Stags improve to 6-12.
After two scoreless innings, the Seawolves struck in the top of the third inning as Keith Fier scored on a Chris Sipp single to take a 1-0 advantage.
Fairfield plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead, capped by a Dave Jermine triple with two outs to plate a pair of runs.
The Stags added another run in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Seawolves would score in the top of the ninth on a single by Chris Maier, but the rally fell short.
Matt Harloff (0-1) shouldered the loss, allowing three runs in .2 innings of work. Michael Tansey was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Jeremy Nowak was 2-for-3 in the loss.
The Seawolves return to action on Wednesday when they square off against Hofstra in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
