Box Score

Vestal, N.Y. - The Stony Brook baseball team was edged by Binghamton, 3-0, on Friday afternoon. Stony Brook starter Tom Koehler threw 7.1 innings of quality baseball for the Seawolves, but Zach Groh outdueled Koehler and the Seawolves stranded 10 runners in the loss. The loss drops the Seawolves to 22-19 overall and 8-4 in America East play. Binghamton moves to 20-13, 14-2.

With the game scoreless in the bottom of the fifth inning, Binghamton found itself with runners on first and second with two outs. Kyle Klee ripped the Koehler offering for a triple as Binghamton grabbed a 2-0 lead.

The Bearcats added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth off of a Pat Haughie RBI double.

Groh allowed only four hits in 7.0 innings with six strikeouts in the win. The Binghamton bullpen closed out the final two innings as the Bearcats held on for the 3-0 win.

Koehler (3-7) picked up the tough luck loss, allowing all three runs in 7.1 innings.

Michael Stephan and Rob Leonard each finished the game 2-for-4.

The Seawolves return to action on Saturday when they continue their series with Binghamton with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
