Binghamton Tops Baseball, 11-5

Vestal, N.Y. - Binghamton rallied for three big innings as the Stony Brook baseball team fell to the Bearcats, 11-5, on Sunday afternoon. Five errors proved costly for the Seawolves as they fall to 24-20 overall and 10-5 in America East play. Binghamton moves to 21-15, 15-4.

The Seawolves struck first and took a 1-0 lead when Justin Echevarria ripped an RBI double to plate Rob Leonard in the top of the second. Binghamton responded in the bottom half of the inning as Jeff Monaco blasted a two-run shot and Justin Smucker hit an RBI single to give the Bearcats a 3-1 lead through two.

The Seawolves knotted the game at 3-3 capped by an RBI single from Leonard in the top of the fifth. Binghamton had the answer once again as the Bearcats scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth capped by Monaco RBI single.

Binghamton added another four in the bottom of the seventh as their lead grew to 11-3. Stony Brook added two runs in the top of the eighth, but the rally fell short as Binghamton closed out the game, 11-5.

Kurt Jung (6-3) allowed seven runs, five earned, and struck out two in the loss. Brian Witkowski finished the game 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, Leonard was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored and Chris Cruz was 2-for-5 with a run scored.

The Seawolves return to action on Tuesday, May 8 when they host Long Island rival Hofstra. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
