Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Stony Brook's football team will get the 2007 season under way on Saturday when the Seawolves host the Georgetown Hoyas at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium at 6:00 p.m. Stony Brook returns 14 starters from the 2006 team that won five of its final seven games to place second in the Northeast Conference final standings. The Seawolves will be looking to build on that momentum as it moves to an independent status for 2007, taking on a challenging schedule that includes Youngstown State, Hofstra, Richmond and Maine.
Head Coach Chuck Priore begins his second season at the helm of the Stony Brook program with eight starters back on an offense that has now had one full season to work with his offensive scheme. Included in that group is senior quarterback Josh Dudash (Beachwood, N.J.) who threw for over 2,000 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2006. Overall Stony Brook returns 44 letterwinners from last season's squad and have added a solid group of new faces to the team, including several transfers from DI schools.
Tickets are still available for the opener of the 24th season of Stony Brook football and can be purchased either through the Stony Brook athletics website (www.goseawolves.org) or by calling the ticket office at 631-632-WOLF. The first 1,000 fans through the gates at LaValle Stadium will receive a magnetic 2007 Stony Brook football schedule. There will also be a fireworks show after the game.
For those fans unable to attend the game, all of the action will be carried on WUSB (90.1 FM) with Ray Alexander providing the play-by-play and Curt Hylton providing color. Fans can also watch the action through Stony Brook All-Access, which provides live video and audio streaming of the game and can be accessed through www.goseawolves.org.
