Game One Box Score

Game Two Box Score

New Haven, Conn. - Sophomore Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla.) had seven strikeouts in seven innings of work, as she led Stony Brook to a 4-2 victory over Yale in their first game of a doubleheader Thursday in New Haven, Conn. Senior Sara Cerrone's (Floral Park, N.Y.) three hits and two RBI paced the Seawolves to a 7-2 victory in game two, which improved Stony Brook to 8-6-1 on the season while Yale fell to 8-6.

The Bulldogs got to Struzenberg early in game one, with their first two batters reaching base safely on a single and a base on balls. Yale managed to push both of those runners across due to an error and a wild pitch by the Seawolves, for an early 2-0 lead.

Stony Brook was held scoreless until the third, when sophomore Vicki Kavitsky (Cherry Hill, N.J.) hit a two-out double to left. She later scored on a fielding error by Yale's rightfielder to pull the Seawolves within one.

In the fourth inning, junior Kelly Oberto (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) started a two-out rally with a single to center and then came all the way around to score on a double by sophomore Katelyn O'Donnell (Kingston, Mass.) to even the game at 2-2.

After Kavitsky reached base in the fifth inning on a hit-by-pitch and stole second, junior Marissa Fleury (Mahopac, N.Y.) knocked her in with an RBI single to center, to put the Seawolves up by one. Kavitsky, who was 2-for-2 on the day, scored her third run of the game in the seventh to extend Stony Brook's lead to 4-2. All four of Stony Brook's runs were scored with two outs.

The Seawolves wasted no time scoring in game two. After Kavitsky reached base on a walk, junior Kelsi Fanelli (Audubon, N.J.) hit a two-run homer to leftfield, giving Stony Brook an early lrad which they would never give up. Stony Brook scored in each of the next four innings with two RBI singles from Oberto and an RBI single and home run by Cerrone.

Sophomore Casey Jacobs (Davie, Fla.) picked up her first win of the season, allowing just two runs in four innings. Freshman Colleen Matthes (Severn, Md.) picked up her first save of her career with three innings of scoreless softball.

Stony Brook will return home Friday to host the Stony Brook Invitational against Quinnipiac and Dartmouth. The Seawolves will play Quinnipiac at 12:30 p.m. followed by a game against Dartmouth.
