Game Two Box Score

Vestal, N.Y. - Sophomore Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla.) threw a no-hitter and recorded ten strikeouts Saturday as Stony Brook's softball team beat Binghamton, 6-0, in game one of a doubleheader. The Seawolves scored twice in the top of the seventh in game two to win 3-1. Stony Brook is now 22-16-1 (7-6 America East).

Struzenberg, who retired 15 straight batters at one points, issued just three walks in her dominating performance and faced only 24 batters.

Offensively, the Seawolves were lead by junior Marissa Fleury (Mahopac, N.Y.) who went 2-for-4 with two home runs and sophomore Vicki Kavitsky (Cherry Hill, N.J.) who went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.

Kavitsky scored Stony Brook's first run of the day in the second inning after leading off with a single to left. She proceeded to steal second and moved to third on a single by sophomore Casey Jacobs (Davie, Fla.). A third straight single, this one by junior Kelly Oberto (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) scored Kavitsky and moved Jacobs to third. She would later score on a passed ball.

The Seawolves failed to score over the next two innings, but in the top of the fifth with one out Fleury hit her first home run of the day to left centerfield to give Stony Brook a 3-0 lead. Kavitsky would score her second run of the game later in the inning on an error by Binghamton's first baseman.

In the seventh inning, Fleury led off with a solo shot to centerfield and Kavitsky, who reached on a walk, would eventually score on a wild pitch, finishing the game off at 6-0.

Binghamton jumped out to an early lead in game two, scoring an unearned run in the third. In the following half-inning, junior Kelsi Fanelli (Audubon, N.J.) drew a one-out walk and moved over to third on a single by Fleury and a fielder's choice by sophomore Jade Clare (Federal Way, Wash.). Binghamton's pitcher then issued a bases loaded walk to Kavitsky to even the score at 1-1.

The Bearcats threatened in the fifth with a runner on second and one out, but Jacobs induced a pop-fly to center and a groundout to keep the score knotted at one. Struzenberg then replaced Jacobs in the sixth inning and struck out the side.

Jacobs started the top of the seventh with a walk for Stony Brook and was sacrificed over to second by Oberto. Sophomore Kendall Blumenthal (Frederick, Md.) then had a pinch-hit single to short to put runners on the corners. Sophomore Crista Cerrone (Floral Park, N.Y.) pinch-ran for Jacobs on third and scored on an RBI single to center by senior Ashley Westphal (Huntington Beach, Calif.). Westphal would eventually score an insurance run for Stony Brook on a single to left by Fanelli.

Struzenberg retired Binghamton in order in the bottom of the seventh to give the Seawolves a 3-1 victory and earn her second win of the day.

Stony Brook will wrap-up its three-game series against Binghamton tomorrow afternoon at noon.
