Struzenberg One-Hits Binghamton to Complete Weekend Sweep

April 20, 2008

Box Score

Vestal, N.Y. - Sophomore Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla.) threw another gem Sunday as Stony Brook completed the three-game sweep of Binghamton with a 2-0 victory. The Seawolves improve to 23-16-1 (8-6 America East) with the win, while Binghamton falls to 6-29.

Struzenberg, fresh off a no-hitter yesterday, allowed a single to the first batter of the game, recorded two outs, issued a walk and then retired 19 straight batters for the one-hit complete game victory. Struzenberg struck out seven batters Sunday and totaled 21 K's in 16 innings over the entire weekend.

Binghamton's Nicole Constantatos kept pace with Struzenberg over the first six innings of the game, allowing just three hits.

In the top of the seventh with the game still scoreless, junior Kelly Oberto (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) earned a leadoff walk. Constantatos got the next batter to pop out and was then replaced by Patty Egan. A groundout by senior Ashley Westphal (Huntington Beach, Calif.) moved Oberto to second and a double to center by junior Molly Kestranek (St. Mary's, Ga.) scored the games first run. Kestranek advanced to third on a wild pitch and was then driven in with a single by junior Kelsi Fanelli (Audubon, N.J.).

Struzenberg got Binghamton's first batter to groundout to third and then struck out the final two batters to put the game away.

The Seawolves return home Wednesday for a single game against Hartford starting at 3 p.m.
