Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score
Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Sophomore Casey Jacobs (Davie, Fla.) recorded six strikeouts in seven innings, as Stony Brook beat Albany 4-0 in game two of a doubleheader Saturday at University Field. Stony Brook lost game one, 5-1. The Seawolves are now 25-18-1 (10-7 America East) while Albany is 26-14 (13-4 America East).
Stony Brook got off to a hot start in game two, starting with a leadoff single by senior Ashley Westphal (Huntington Beach, Calif.). Two batters later, junior Kelsi Fanelli (Audubon, N.J.) belted a two-run homer over the left centerfield fence. The next batter, junior Marissa Fleury (Mahopac, N.Y.), then doubled off the leftfield wall. Junior Molly Kestranek's (St. Mary's, Ga.) grounder to short was deep enough to plate Fleury and give the Seawolves an early 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, sophomore Crista Cerrone (Floral Park, N.Y.) grounded to the first basemen, who dropped the ball when she attempted to tag Cerrone, allowing her to reach first safely. Cerrone then stole second and later scored on a single by sophomore Vicki Kavitsky (Cherry Hill, N.J.).
The four run lead was more than enough for Jacobs, who allowed just five hits and one walk in her complete game effort. With the win, Jacobs improves to 6-2 on the year and lowers her ERA to 1.21.
Game one started off as a pitchers duel between Stony Brook sophomore Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla.) and Albany sophomore Leah McIntosh, with the two teams combining for just one hit over the first three innings.
In the fourth, Albany had three straight singles off Struzenberg, including Gina Mason's two-RBI hit to left field, to open up a 2-0 lead. The Great Danes scored again in the fifth on a two-run homer by Jess Bergin.
Kavitsky started the bottom of the fifth with a hit-by-pitch and moved over to second on a groundout by Jacobs. Junior Kelly Oberto (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) then singled to left centerfield to drive in Stony Brook's lone run of the game.
Albany tacked on one more run in the sixth to win, 5-1.
Stony Brook will wrap-up its three-game series with Albany on Sunday with a single game starting at noon.
