Game Two Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's softball team swept its final home series of the season Thursday, beating Manhattan College 8-0 (5) and 11-3 (6). With the wins Stony Brook improves to 28-20-1 (11-7 America East).

The Seawolves jumped out to an early lead in game one, starting with a leadoff single by senior Ashley Westphal (Huntington Beach, Calif.). Two batters later, junior Kelsi Fanelli (Audubon, N.J.) doubled to center to score Westphal and two batters after that sophomore Jade Clare (Federal Way, Wash.) singled down the leftfield line, driving in Fanelli and giving Stony Brook a 2-0 lead.

Westphal started things off for the Seawolves again in the third, this time with a double to left field. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and eventually scored on an error by the Jaspers second baseman.

In the fourth, with runners on second and third, sophomore Vicki Kavitsky (Cherry Hill, N.J.) beat out a single to short to drive in both sophomore Casey Jacobs (Davie, Fla.) and junior Kelly Oberto (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.).

After an RBI single in the fifth by Jacobs put the Seawolves up six, Oberto hit a two-run homer over the right centerfield wall to end the game, 8-0.

Sophomore Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla.) allowed just two hits while earning her 19th win of the season. Struzenberg is now just one win shy of tying the Stony Brook record for most wins in a season, which was set by Angela Andrews in 2004.

Game two started very similarly for Stony Brook with a leadoff single by Westphal followed with a single by Kavitsky. A throwing error by Manhattan's pitcher allowed Fanelli to reach and Westphal to score and a sacrifice bunt by junior Marissa Fleury (Mahopac, N.Y.) plated Kavitsky. Fanelli would eventually score on a wild pitch to give Stony Brook an early 3-1 lead.

After scoring once in the second, Clare hit a three-run homer to centerfield to increase the Seawolves advantage to 7-1.

The Seawolves were held scoreless over the next two innings while Manhattan pushed two runs across on a bases loaded walk and a solo home run by Ashley Rampino.

Stony Brook took advantage of a walk, a hit-by-pitch, two errors and a single by freshman Brijette Martin (New York, N.Y.) to score four times in the bottom of the sixth and end the game, 11-3.

Jacobs earned the win for the Stony Brook, improving to 7-3 on the year.

The Seawolves will wrap-up their regular season with a three game series at Vermont. Stony Brook has already secured a berth in the America East playoffs, but depending on this weekend's series they could finish as high as second in the conference.
