Stony Brook University senior goalkeeper Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y.) was named the SimplexGrinnell Stony Brook Athlete of the Week on Monday after posting consecutive shutouts to lead the Seawolves women's soccer team to conference victories over UMBC and Vermont last week. Viola's shutout against UMBC was the 24th of her career and broke the program's previous career shutout record held by Cindy Bennett '05.
Viola made four stops in the Seawolves 5-0 win over UMBC on Thursday before making six saves in SBU's 2-0 victory at Vermont on Sunday. She leads the America East with 89 saves and has recorded shutouts in four of the last five games.
The Seawolves return to action on Thursday, Oct. 15, hosting Boston University at LaValle Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
