Stony Brook University's women's soccer team had four student-athletes named to the America East All-Conference teams, announced by the conference office on Wednesday. Seniors Alexandra Teti (Downington, Pa.) and Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y.) were named to the first and second team, respectively, while freshmen Sa'sha Kershaw (Baltimore, Md.) and Taryn Schoenbeck (Newark, Del.) were selected to the All-Rookie squad.
Teti started 15 of the 16 games she appeared this season, anchoring a defense that allowed just two goals over the first six games of the conference season. She also proved to be one of Stony Brook's most durable players as she ranked second on the team, behind Viola, in minutes played (1279) on her way to earning the first all-conference honor of her career.
The 2008 America East Goalkeeper of the Year, Viola posted four shutouts during conference play and ranked second in the America East with 109 saves. Viola recorded the 24th shutout of her career in the Seawolves 5-0 victory over UMBC on Oct 8. to set the program's career shutout record.
Kershaw appeared in 17 games in her first season with the Seawolves, making 14 starts. The midfielder tied for the team lead with 10 points as she scored four goals and added two assists. She tallied seven of her 10 points during conference play.
Schoenbeck appeared in 17 games, which included starts in eight of the Seawolves final nine games. The forward recorded five points on the season as she totaled a goal and three assists including an assist on the game-winning goal in Stony Brook's 2-1 victory over Boston University on Oct. 15.
Stony Brook earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming America East tournament, and will host No. 5 Albany on Thursday at LaValle Stadium in an America East quarterfinal game. Game time is set for 7 p.m. It will be the third straight season that the Seawolves have hosted an America East tournament game.
Tickets for Thursday's game are $8 for ages 15 & up and $5 for those 14 & Under. Tickets are $2 for students at an America East Institution with a valid America East institutional ID. Stony Brook students will be granted free admission with a Stony Brook ID courtesy of the Stony Brook athletic department. Fans can call 631-632-WOLF to order tickets.
Fans cannot buy tickets by phone on Thursday but can purchase tickets at the LaValle Stadium ticket booth beginning at 6 p.m.
