Coulter Named SimplexGrinell Stony Brook Athlete of the Week

Oct. 5, 2009

Stnoy Brook, N.Y. - Sophomore quarterback Michael Coulter (Yorba Linda, Calif.) of the Stony Brook University football team has been named the SimplexGrinell Stony Brook Athlete of the Week after his play in the Seawolves', 52-14, homecoming win over Presbyterian on Saturday. He threw for a career-high 321 yards and a pair of scores against the Blue Hose in the Big South Conference opener for both schools.

Coulter was a key component of a Stony Brook offensive show on Saturday against Presbyterian, one that put a season best 623 yards of total offense in the books. On a scoring drive in the second quarter Coulter was a perfect 5-for-5 in the passing game, including tossing a 59-yard scoring strike to junior Donald Porter (Charles Town, W.Va.) that proved to be the game-winning score. The pair later hooked up on a 60-yard TD pass in the second half and Coulter also rushed for a six-yard score, the first TD of his career. His 321 yards passing was the first 300-yard day for a Stony Brook quarterback since T.J. Moriarty '05 threw for 322 against Central Connecticut in 2004.
