Cambridge, Mass. -
Junior Debbie Aller (Stony Brook, N.Y.) of the Stony Brook University women's soccer team has been named to the 2009 America East All-Academic team, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Aller appeared in 19 games this season for a Seawolves squad that advanced to the America East tournament semifinals for the third straight season.
A defender, Aller was an anchor on a Stony Brook defense that posted five shutouts this season. She also scored the game-winning goal in the Seawolves 2-1 overtime victory at Yale on Sept. 16.
An Anthropology and Environmental studies major, Aller has been named to the Dean's list in all of her four semesters at Stony Brook and carries a 3.57 GPA. She was recognized recently for her work with Stony Brook University's Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities department (URECA) this past summer as she was named URECA's Researcher of month for September. Aller was also profiled in the America East's Best of U spotlight which recognizes the contributions the conference's student-athletes make to their classrooms, their campuses and their communities.
To be nominated for the All-Academic squad, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team's games or competitions. In the classroom, student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.
