Stony Brook, N.Y. - Junior Robert Dyer (Selden, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 with four RBI to lead the Stony Brook University baseball team to a 13-5 victory over the Rider Broncs in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon at University Field. The Seawolves used a three-run sixth to break a 1-1 tie on their way to a 4-2 win in the first game. Stony Brook is now 23-18 overall.

The Seawolves jumped to an early lead in game two as sophomore Chad Marshall (Paris, Ontario) singled with one out and eventually came around to score on an RBI single from Dyer. Rider evened the score at one in the third as James Hayes came home on a Mason Heyne double play ground out.

Stony Brook blew open the game in the second, striking for five runs. Dyer and senior Steven Mazzurco (Selden, N.Y.) drove in the first two runs of the inning with run-scoring singles before senior Michael Tansey (Valley Stream, N.Y.) capped the inning with a three-run home run to left.

Rider cut the Seawolves lead to 6-2 in the fourth but the Seawolves answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Dyer. Stony Brook scored four times in the seventh on two-run singles from senior Chad Rebecca (Mount Prospect, Ill.) and freshman Sal Intagliata (Franklin Square, N.Y.).

Senior Mike Errigo (Bayside, N.Y.) picked up the win in the second game, allowing three runs in 6.0 innings of work. Senior Jon Kalkau (Bellmore, N.Y.) and junior Jordan Purington (Westbrook, Maine) each hurled a scoreless inning for the Seawolves.

SBU grabbed the early lead in the first game as Dyer tripled with one out in the second and then came home on a sacrifice fly from Mazzurco. The Broncs tied the game in the fifth on an A.J. Albee RBI single.

But the Seawolves took the lead for good in the sixth, scoring three runs. Sophomore Nick Thode (Huntington Station, N.Y.) walked to lead off the inning before Dyer singled to center to move senior Keith Fier (Armonk, N.Y.), who had come in as a pinch runner for Thode, to third. Fier came home a batter later on another sacrifice fly from Mazzurco.

Tansey capped the inning with a long two-run home run to left field that put the Seawolves up 4-1. The Broncs got a run in the seventh on a one-out solo home run from Maurice Williams off SBU junior starter Jeremy Nowak (Cheektowaga, N.Y.). Albee followed with a single to left but senior Marc Brown (Lancaster, Pa.) then came in to relieve Nowak and secure the victory for the Seawolves.

Nowak, making his first start of the season, picked up the victory as he allowed just two runs on six hits in 6.1 innings. Dyer and Tansey led the Seawolves offense with two hits apiece.

The teams will wrap up the four-game series on Sunday, traveling to Rider for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
