Fleury, Struzenberg Named to America East All-Academic Team

Cambridge, Mass. - Senior Marissa Fleury (Mahopac, N.Y.) and junior Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla.) continue to rack up the awards as they were named to the America East Softball All-Academic team on Tuesday afternoon. Both student-athletes have already been named to the conference's first team, ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District team and the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region first team. Fleury and Struzenberg are two of the ten softball players honored by the conference for their excellence on the field and in the classroom.

An athletic training major with a 3.40 GPA, Fleury graduated this past weekend at Stony Brook's 2009 Commencement. One of the most talented hitters in school history, she ranks in the top-ten in six career offensive categories. Her four-year batting average of .337 is eighth all-time while ranking third in RBI (129), home runs (32), doubles (40) and runs scored (111) and fourth in hits (205). This season she led the Seawolves in slugging percentage (.705), RBI (41) and home runs (13) while posting a .989 fielding percentage.

Tied for the highest GPA on the squad, Struzenberg is a Business/Economics major with a 3.88 GPA. The conference's Pitcher of the Year in 2008, she sits second all-time at SBU in career wins (53) and strikeouts (598), third in shutouts (15) and fourth in complete games (46). For the first time in her career, she posted an ERA under 2.00 (1.98) while striking out 224 batters and holding opponents to a .194 batting average.
