Buffalo, N.Y. -
Former Stony Brook University women's soccer standout Brooke Barbuto '09 recently signed a professional contract with the Buffalo Flash of the W-League. The W-League is currently the second highest level of professional women's soccer in the United States.
Barbuto started and played 70 minutes in the Flash's season-opening 4-2 victory over the Quebec City Amiral last week. She then helped the Flash to a 6-0 win over the Rochester Ravens on Friday night. In their inaugural season as a franchise, the Flash will play a 14-game regular season schedule and are in the Great Lakes Division of the Central Conference.
A two-time All-America East first team honoree and a three-time NSCAA All-Northeast Region selection, Barbuto closed her brilliant four-year Stony Brook career in style in 2008, tying a career-high with six goals in addition to posting a career-high six assists. The Syracuse, N.Y. native also led the Seawolves to their first appearance in the America East title game since 2002.
