Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Stony Brook University women's soccer sophomore defender Dana Adamkiewicz (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) has been named SimplexGrinnell Stony Brook Athlete of the Week after starting and playing 75 minutes in the Seawolves backfield in SBU's season opener against Iona on Friday night.
Adamkiewicz nearly scored her first career goal in the 12th minute as she hit a free kick from midfield that bounced over the head of Iona keeper Kelly Mahoney and then hit the crossbar. She then almost set-up a Seawolves goal minutes later as she sent a cross into the 18-yard box that sophomore Colleen McKenna (Manorville, N.Y.) headed just wide.
The Seawolves return to action on Sunday, traveling to take on #20 Rutgers. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
