Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Stony Brook University women's soccer freshman forward Meghan Gilley (Macungie, Pa.) has been the named SimplexGrinnell Stony Brook Athlete of the Week, after scoring the game-tying goal with 2:46 left in regulation in the Seawolves 1-1 tie with the #23 Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Sunday night.
Stony Brook trailed the Scarlet Knights, 1-0, in the closing minutes of the game but sophomore Colleen McKenna (Manorville, N.Y.) sent a cross into the 18-yard box that Rutgers goalkeeper Emmy Simpkins deflected. Simpkins was unable to corral the loose ball though and Gilley stole it and put it in the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. Rutgers had not given up a goal in its first two games this season.
The Seawolves return to action on Friday, traveling to take on East Carolina. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
