Final Stats

Fairfield, Conn. - Senior Kelly Grant (Fairfax, Va.) scored her first goal of the season but the Fairfield Stags used two goals from Jasmin Corniel to defeat the Stony Brook University women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at Lessing Field. Stony Brook falls to 1-7-1 with the loss while Fairfield improves to 5-3-0.

Grant's goal came after sophomore Dominique Adamo (Ramsey, N.J.) sent a corner kick into the Fairfield 18-yard box. A scramble for the ball ensued and Grant corralled it and put it past Stag keeper Kelly Boudreau to cut the Fairfield lead to 3-1. It was the second career goal for Grant.

But that is the only score the Seawolves would get as Fairfield went on to the two-goal victory. Stony Brook finished the game with a 10-5 advantage in shots.

Fairfield took the lead in the 28th minute as Corniel stole the ball on an attempted pass back to Stony Brook senior goalkeeper Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y.). Corniel then carried the ball past Viola and touched it into the net.

SBU went into halftime trailing just 1-0, outshooting Fairfield 5-2 in the period. But Corniel scored her second goal of the game in the 57th minute to put Fairfield on top 2-0.

The Stags put the contest away in the 71st minute as Nicole Cavallaro struck a corner kick into the 18-yard box of the Seawolves. An Alyssa Decker head ball knocked the ball down to Kaitlin Denis, who then kicked the ball over Viola for Fairfield's final score of the contest.

Viola finished the game with two saves for the Seawolves, who held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Boudreau made three saves to pick up the victory for Fairfield.
