Raleigh, N.C. -
Senior goalkeeper Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y.) made five saves but Paige Dugal and Kara Blosser scored two goals apiece to lead the North Carolina State Wolfpack to a 4-0 victory over the Stony Brook University women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at Dail Soccer Field. Stony Brook falls to 0-3-1 with the loss while NCSU improves to 4-1-0.
Dugal gave North Carolina State a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute as she headed in a cross from Kara Baldy. The Seawolves held strong over the next 25 minutes but Blosser was able to put one past Viola in the 31st minute to give the Wolfpack a 2-0 advantage.
Viola made four of her five saves in the opening half for the Seawolves, who recorded two corner kicks in the first period. Sophomore Holly Razzaghi (Bloomsburg, Pa.) and freshman Taryn Schoenbeck (Newark, Del.) each recorded a shot in the first half for SBU.
North Carolina State put the game away just over five minutes into the second half as Dugal struck again, scoring her second goal of the day and third of the season. The goal came after a Tanya Cain shot was deflected and Dugal got to the loose ball and put it in.
Blosser added her second score of the game in the 65th minute to put the Wolfpack up 4-0. Kim Kern played the first 63:38 in net for the Wolfpack and picked up the victory.
The Seawolves return to action on Thursday, Sept. 10, hosting Quinnipiac at LaValle Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
