Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's baseball team held their 5th annual Bat Blast fundraising event on Wednesday afternoon. Winners of two of the last three America East Championships, the Seawolves open the 2011 season on Feb. 25 against Florida Atlantic.

The event involves each student-athlete on the team getting a specific number of sponsored pitches thrown to them and the amount of hits they accumulate is then totaled. After each player's at-bat, we tally all of the totals and the player with the highest batting average is declared the Bat Blast Champion.

The pitchers champ this season was junior right-hander Nick Tropeano (West Islip, N.Y.), while the Hitters Champ was freshman Joshua Mason (Woodland Hills, Calif.). The two then faced off, with Mason earning the title of Bat Blast Champion.

Renovation of Joe Nathan Field is currently underway, with completion of the project scheduled for this spring. Click Here for photo gallery.
