Baseball Falls To Central Connecticut State, 4-3

South Orange, N.J. - Stony Brook University's baseball team out-hit the Central Connecticut State Blue Devi;s, 8-7, but it wasn't enough as CCSU rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Seawolves, 4-3, in the first game of the Seton Hall Strike Out Cancer Tournament on Friday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field. Seniors Robert Dyer (Selden, N.Y.) and Michael Stephan (Patchogue, N.Y.) each had two hits to lead the Seawolves.

Stony Brook grabbed the early lead, scoring a run in the second on an RBI single from freshman Tanner Nivins (Kitchener, Ontario). The Seawolves tacked on a run in the second on a Dyer run-scoring single.

But Central Connecticut tied the game with two runs in the fifth as Mitch Well tripled to lead off the inning and then scored on a fielder's choice. Sean Allaire drove in the second run of the inning with an RBI single.

Central then took the lead with two runs in the eighth on run-scoring singles from Allaire and Anthony Scialdone. SBU drew within one in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from junior Stephen Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.).

But Derek Drag retired the Seawolves in order in the ninth to secure the victory for Central Connecticut State. Sophomore Tyler Johnson (Chatsworth, Calif.) took the loss for Stony Brook, allowing four runs on five hits in 6.2 innings.

The Seawolves return to action on Saturday, taking on Iona in the second game of the Seton Hall Strike Out Cancer Tournament. Game time is set for 10 a.m.
