Stephan, Tropeano Earn Weekly Conference Honors

March 22, 2010

Cambridge, Mass. - Sophomore Nick Tropeano (West Islip, N.Y.) and senior Michael Stephan (Patchogue, N.Y.), of the Stony Brook University baseball team, earned America East Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, respectively, on Monday after leading the Seawolves to victories over Seton Hall and Iona last week.

Stephan had an on-base percentage of .636 in five games and went 3-for-4 with two home runs in Stony Brook's 22-11 win over Iona on Wednesday. He also drove in four runs against the Gaels in addition to scoring three times. He then collected two more hits against Central Connecticut State on Friday.

Tropeano led the Seawolves to a 3-2 win over Iona on Saturday in the second game of the Seton Hall Strike Out Cancer Tournament. The right-hander hurled a six-hitter, striking a career-best 13. Tropeano allowed just one earned run and did not walk a batter. Tropeano has 26 strike outs and only one walk in 23.1 innings pitched this season.

Stony Brook returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to take on Fordham. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
