Baseball Drops Series Finale To Pepperdine, 4-2

Malibu, Calif. - Junior Stephen Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with two RBI and freshman Adam Brown (Melville, N.Y.) allowed just two earned runs in 6.0 innings but the Pepperdine Waves used a three-run fifth to defeat the Stony Brook University baseball team, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium. Stony Brook falls to 7-10 with the loss.

Pepperdine took the early lead with a run in the second on an infield RBI single from Joe Sever. SBU evened the score in the third on a Marino sacrifice fly which drove in freshman Travis Jankowski (Lancaster, Pa.).

The Waves took control of the game in the fifth with three runs highlighted by a two-run single from Ryan Heroy. Stony Brook got a run back in the seventh as freshman William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) singled with one out and then came home on a two-out RBI double off the bat of Marino.

The Seawolves got the tying run to the plate in the ninth as junior Chad Marshall (Paris, Ontario) singled with two outs. But Robert Dickmann got Marino to ground to second to end the game.

Dickmann hurled a complete game, allowing 10 hits. Brown (1-3) took the loss for the Seawolves, giving up seven hits in his 6.0 innings. Senior Chris Maier (Farmingdale, N.Y.) tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief for Stony Brook, allowing just one base runner.

Maier hasn't allowed a run in his last three appearances. Marshall and sophomore Pat Cantwell (West Islip, N.Y.) each had two hits for SBU.

The Seawolves will continue their six-game California road trip on Monday, taking on San Diego State. First pitch is set for 9 p.m. EST.
