Cambridge, Mass. -
Sophomore right hander Tyler Johnson (Chatsworth, Calif.), of the Stony Brook University baseball team, was named the America East Pitcher of the Week on Monday after helping the Seawolves to a win over Akron in their season opener on Saturday.
A 2009 All-America East second team selection, Johnson earned the win in the Seawolves' 3-2 victory over the Zips. He allowed just two runs and two hits in 7.1 innings, striking out a career-best 10. With the win over Akron, head coach Matt Senk became the first coach in program history and just the third in America East history to win 500 games.
Stony Brook returns to action on Friday, traveling to take on Alabama for a four-game series. First pitch is set for 7:35 p.m.
