Box Score

Kingston, R.I. - Senior Casey Jacobs (Davie, Fla.) recorded a complete-game shutout, a save, ten strikeouts and two RBI as the Stony Brook University softball team won a pair of games from Rhode Island on Sunday afternoon. Jacobs recorded the save in the Seawolves 6-4 victory in game one before throwing the shutout in the 1-0 win in game two. Stony Brook is now 23-12-1 on the season.

Stony Brook wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in game one, as Jacobs and Kendall Blumenthal (Frederick, Md.) hit back-to-back infield RBI singles to put the Seawolves in front 2-0. Rhode Island would cut the lead in half, however, with its first home run of the game, a solo shot to left centerfield in the second inning.

An RBI by sophomore Suzanne Karath (Fishkill, N.Y.) in the fourth inning put Stony Brook on top, 3-1, but the lead would not last long. With two outs and two on in the bottom half of the fourth, the Rams hit their second homer of the game, a three-run shot to left to take their first lead of the game at 4-3.

The Seawolves would answer right back, though, scoring a pair in the top of the fifth. SBU took advantage of an error by the Ram's leftfielder to score the two runs. Jacobs picked up her second RBI of the game on a sac fly to right, while sophomore Bernadette Tenuto (Audubon, N.J.) knocked in the other run.

With a one-run lead, Jacobs came in relief of Struzenberg and did not allow a single base runner over the final three innings. She recorded four strikeouts on the way to her second save of the season. Tenuto would tack on an insurance run in top of the seventh to give the Seawolves the 6-4 win.

Jacobs would throw a complete-game shutout in game two as the Seawolves won, 1-0. The Rams racked up ten hits, but Jacobs allowed runners to advance past second only twice while recording six more strikeouts.

Senior Jade Clare (Federal Way, Wash.) scored the lone run of the game in the second inning. After hitting a single to left, she advanced to third on a wild pitch and a passed ball. Senior Crista Cerrone (Floral Park, N.Y.) then hit a sacrifice fly to center to plate Clare.

Stony Brook returns to action on Wednesday, when it hosts a single game against Long Island.
