Former Stony Brook baseball standout Matt Lyons '07 has signed a free agent contract with the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League, the organization recently announced. Lyons is the 31th Stony Brook player to sign a professional contact under head coach Matt Senk and the 23rd since the Seawolves made the move to Division I in 2000.
Lyons joins the Wild Things after playing two years for the Long Island Storm organization. He played in three games in 2010, striking out nine batters in 5.0 innings of work. In 2009, he pitched 104.0 innings and struck out 155 batters.
A Farmingdale, N.Y., native, Lyons went 1-0 with three saves for the Seawolves as a senior and was named America East Pitcher of the Week on April 3, 2007. The previous two years he struck out 55 batters in 33.1 innings of work.
